ABOUT LABORATORY

Laboratoty of Synthesis of Physiolological Active Compounds is one of the oldest laboratories of Institute. It was created by outstanding soviet chemist academician M.M. Shemyakin. During the years, famous scientists: M.N. Kolosov, V.K. Antonov, E.S. Chaman, B.A. Klyaschitsky et al., worked in the Laboratory. The main field of research which is сarried out in the Laboratory is design, chemical synthesis, structural and biochemical investigations of new
physiolological active compounds.

Essential achievements of Laboratory
  • Foreground investigations of antibiotics and amino acids (1945 – 1961)
  • Discovery of vitamin B6 and development of fundamental principles of pyridoxal catalysis (1951 – 1961)
  • Elaboration of original (the second in the history) automatic peptide synthesizer, and the solid phase synthesis of bradykinin (1966 – 1970)
  • Foreground studies in chemistry of pyrocarbonates (1969 – 1980)
  • Development of new method for activation of carboxylic function in peptide synthesis (1979 – 1989)
  • Foreground investigations of tetrapyrrole heterocycles; development of new approaches for photodynamic therapy of tumors and neoplasmes based on the application of platinum and palladium complexes of porphyrins and chlorines (1990 – 2008).

Current research of Laboratory – studies of new synthetic oxysterols and their analogs; tetrapyrrole heterocycles; peptidomimetics; and complexes of some natural compounds with transition metal cations, and platinum group metal cations.
