ABOUT LABORATORY

Cell Biology Laboratory of the Institute of Biomedical Chemistry has been launched in 2005. At present it includes 6 research stuff employees and 1 pre-doctoral trainee. The laboratory is a part of the Department of Proteomics Research.

Cell Biology Laboratory maintains a modern cell culture facility and is equipped with a flow BD FACSAria cytometer/cell sorter, Carl Zeiss Laser Scanning Microscope 510 combi, Arcturus laser microdissector, and other advanced scientific gear.

Together with other laboratories of the Department of Proteomics Research, Cell Biology Lab is involved in the studies within the National Research Program “Proteomics in Medicine and Biotechnology”. It also participates in the recently initiated International Program “Human Proteome”. In cooperation with the laboratory of Systems Biology, we are investigating the role of a number of intracellular regulatory cascades in myeloid differentiation and dedifferentiation of myelocytes.

Apart of this, Cell Biology Lab is or was recently involved in a number of projects supported by the Federal Agency of Science and Innovation, the Federal Agency of Education, and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

The following projects are currently under way:

  1. Comparative study of the expression of cell surface markers and secretion of cytokines by cultured stem cells of mesenchymal and ectodermal lineages.
  2. Evaluation of the effect of mesenchymal stem cells adhesion to mineral-polymeric scaffolds upon their osteogenic potential.
  3. Isolation and characterization of cancer stem cells from human solid tumors.
