Due to research in the field of bioinformatics, carrying out at the Institute of Biomedical Chemistry RAMS, unique software products have been developed. They allow to determine biological activity of chemical compounds, conduct search for new drugs, and vaccine construction.
Special databases on the properties of chemical compounds and peculiarities of their interaction with metabolic systems of human organism have been collecting for more than 10 years. Scientific services are provided by the Institute at the basis of the Open-access center “Postgenomic Technologies Center”. The Center offers the following services: mass-spectrometric proteins identification, olygonucleotide and peptide synthesis, gene-typing, transcriptomic profiling, cellular sorting, etc.
The opening of “Postgenomic Technologies Center”allowed to define the services interesting not only for research teams but also for a wide range of customers. The list of services includes: therapeutic drug monitoring, allowing selecting a correct drug dosage with consideration of individual patient characteristics; mass-spectrometric wine card, allowing defining of counterfeit alcohol production at molecular level.

More than 10 software products were developed at the Institute in 2000 – 2007. The brief description of three software products, successfully competing in commercial sector, and reflecting the main tendencies of bioinformatics technologies development in the Institute, is presented below. | PASS – it is program to predict spectrum of biological activity | This program is based on the supposition that chemical agent structure has a leading part in determining its effects on organism. Firts of all, additional effects of a drug, which is being used for therapeutic purposes, represent great interest. Besides, the program could be used to determine possible side effects of new drug prototypes. |
| CPK – cytochrome P450 database | This knowledge database is developed to store and analyze information on the structural-functional properties of cytochromes P450. P450 family of enzymes catalyze biotransformations of drugs and other xenobiotics. The knowledgebase contains information on nomenclature, primary sequences, 3d structures, substrates, inducers. The peculiarity of this database is in the automatic data replenish, based on the algorithm of research articles analysis. |
| IBMC-resource/Reagent | The automated control system of equipment exploitation (Resource) and material assets spending (Reagent) while research work.
In addition to the usual accounting software, the system allows to monitor the efficiency of equipment exploitation, collect data on refusals and repairs, arrange the maintenance, and store the detailed information on the stocktaking units. |
Sharable Data Center "Postgenomic Technologies Center" was created in 2003 in the frames of Interdepartmental Program "Proteomics for Medicine and Biotechnology". This Center has united material and technical, scientific and methodical potentials of domestic biomedicine and biotechnology leaders. At the present time, intensively extending instrumental base enables to offer entire spectrum of high-performance analysis's of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. All services coul be offered according to the price list or in the frames of joint research projects. The priority is given to organizations - government contractual work performers or domestic funds grants
